Detrimento emerges from a journey through one of Barranquilla’s most traditional neighborhoods, El Prado. I was captivated by the imposing facades of its ancient and beautiful houses in ruins, with cracked walls and columns, roofs, frames, and gates made of wood eaten away by termites. Their hydraulic tiles, broken but still majestic, display designs that evoke other worlds, as if they resisted disappearance. These elegant constructions, worn down by time, become fragile, ethereal, almost spectral. They survive as vestiges of a prosperous past, waiting for a rescue that seemingly never arrives but which we all yearn for.The work consists of two series of eight drawings each. The first series represents house facades, created with mineral earth on very thin and fragile facial tissues, seeking to make the drawing material an essential part of its meaning. The second series, inspired by the hydraulic floors, is also drawn with mineral earth, but this time on a gypsum base, evoking its original materiality and the artisanal technique that threatens to disappear.»
