The final stage of our traveling exhibition was hosted at the gallery within the library of Queens College School of Arts – CUNY. As the closing chapter of this ambitious project, this stop was particularly significant, offering a month-long exhibition that provided ample time for deeper engagement and reflection on the works presented. It served as a culmination of the journey, tying together the diverse narratives and artistic expressions that had resonated across New York.
This exhibition was enriched by the inclusion of live installations from the talented Lina Montoya, whose works brought an interactive and dynamic dimension to the show. Her pieces, deeply connected to the Latin community in Queens, fostered a vibrant dialogue about identity, culture, and belonging. The gallery became a living space where art was not only displayed but actively experienced, creating a profound connection between the audience and the works.
The primary audience at this stage consisted of students, faculty, and fellow artists from CUNY, who appreciated the thoughtful curation that gave voice to each artist’s unique perspective. The political and cultural intensity of the artworks sparked critical conversations, while the workshop led by Brazilian artist Paulo Nazareth added an educational layer to the experience, offering participants insights into his creative processes and the broader context of contemporary Latin American art.
This stop also reinforced our connection with the Latin community in Queens, a borough known for its rich cultural diversity. It became a space where Latin art and identity were celebrated, drawing a local audience eager to engage with the stories and struggles of their own heritage. The month-long duration allowed for sustained visibility and impact, making it the longest and most introspective phase of our journey.
As the closing chapter of the project, the Queens exhibition provided a space for final reflections, reinforcing the themes of resilience, collaboration, and artistic dialogue that had carried us through the city. It was a powerful conclusion to a journey that not only showcased the richness of Latin American art but also positioned it as a vital and transformative force within the global cultural landscape.
A grassroots cultural project that reimagines Latin American art… We honor tradition, spark dialogue, and expand shared creative horizons.
